NYFW Spotlight: Tyra Banks

New York Fashion Week is just getting started and we are still highlighting some of the fashion industry’s most influential men and women. The woman who has perfected “the smize”, Tyra Banks is today’s NYFW Spotlight.

Born in Los Angeles, California, Banks began her modeling career at the age of 17 when she outgrew her awkward teenage phase. Known as “giraffe” in high school due to her tall and slender figure, Banks decided to enter a world where her look would be appreciated. After much rejection, she landed a contract with Elite Model Management in 1990 and started her journey of a lifetime. Tyra has graced the covers of huge magazines like GQ and Sports Illustrated. She is also well-known for being a Victoria’s Secret Angel. Since then she has become an international supermodel/mogul creating a lasting stamp in the fashion industry and modeling world. Banks also proved against the stereotype that models are not intelligent. Banks recently obtained a Master’s Degree in business from Harvard Business School.

Tyra Banks has skyrocketed into a household name due to her amazing modeling career, successful modeling competition/reality show “America’s Next Top Model” and her influence on girls and women all over the world to embrace everything about yourself and to continue to grow as a person. Now that’s a model citizen.

Fun Fact about Tyra Banks, she was the first African-American woman to land the cover of Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
