What was once an enjoyable experience has turned into a nightmare. Fans of the popular “Dark Knight” franchise were beyond excited to see the anticipated film at midnight, which is a norm for most fandoms, but in Colorado things took a nasty turn.
In Aurora, Colorado an unexplained and horrific shooting took place at the midnight premiere, July 20, of “The Dark Knight Rises” at the Century 16 theater 20 minutes into the film. As of now it is being said that the terrifying event took 12 lives and left up to 38 people wounded.
In a report from the Aurora Police Department witnesses describe the actions that lead to the devastating theater experience. Witnesses say that the individual “appeared” at the front of one of the theaters inside the multiplex and “threw some type of gas or explosive device and started shooting.” People from inside the theater recall the gunman only stopping to reload his weapons and shooting anyone who tried to leave.
The police have a suspect in custody at the moment, James Holmes, 24-year-old local resident. The suspect had three guns on the premises and apparently acted alone. At the deranged gunman apartment police discovered a booby-trapped place with “very sophisticated” explosives. I can’t even begin to understand what would possess an individual to shoot up a movie theater! Hearing the details of this tragic event is literally heartbreaking and sick. Prayers go out to all the victims and families involved.
What a way to put an even darker cloud on “The Dark Knight Rises.”
